چکیده

A field experiment was conducted during growing seasons of 2014–15 and 2015–16 at College Agriculture Farm, University Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, Karnataka, to study the effect nutrient management on cotton (Gossypium Hirsutum L.) productivity leaf reddening for targeted yield medium deep black soil under irrigation. Three targets (3, 4 5 t kapas yield/ha)-based site-specific (SSNM) along with leaf- (LRM) treatments (S1 , vermicompost @ 2.5 t/ha in seed line; S2 S1 + MgSO4 10 kg/ha S3 25 S4 line foliar nutrition 1% 19 : KNO3 thrice flowering, boll development bursting stages) besides recommended control were tested using randomized complete block design. The SSNM target supplementary both foliage application major nutrients (19:19:19 ) (S4 resulted significantly higher plant height (64, 140, 146 158 cm, respectively), monopodials (1.90, 3.0, 3.0 3.0) sympodials/plant (10.3, 25.9, 27.5 32.3), nodes main stem (16.4, 29.9, 31.8 37.8), area (27.8, 98.0, 131.8 99.0 dm2 /plant) leaf-area index/plant (0.51, 1.82, 2.4 1.83) 45, 90 135 DAS final picking dry-matter accumulation leaves (63.4, 137.2 153.2 g/plant), (76.3, 146.6 161.3 g/plant) reproductive parts (130.7, 146.3 161.0 90, days after sowing picking. Consequently, treatment also recorded seed-cotton (5.35 t/ ha), harvest index (0.38 pooled basis) benefit: cost ratio (5.32) amongst all LRM approaches, while fared poorly (2.84 t/ha, 0.37 4.14 yield, B C ratio, respectively).

Introgression of cotton leaf curl virus-resistant genes from Asiatic cotton (Gossypium arboreum) into upland cotton (G. hirsutum).

Cotton is under the constant threat of leaf curl virus, which is a major constraint for successful production of cotton in the Pakistan. A total of 3338 cotton genotypes belonging to different research stations were screened, but none were found to be resistant against the Burewala strain of cotton leaf curl virus (CLCuV). We explored the possibility of transferring virus-resistant genes f...

A high-efficiency CRISPR/Cas9 system for targeted mutagenesis in Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

The complex allotetraploid genome is one of major challenges in cotton for repressing gene expression. Developing site-specific DNA mutation is the long-term dream for cotton breeding scientists. The clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (CRISPR/Cas9) system is emerging as a robust biotechnology for targeted-DNA mutation. In this study, two sgRNAs...

Genetics of resistance to cotton leaf curl disease in Gossypium hirsutum L. under field conditions.

One hundred and forty two cotton germplasm lines were screened for cotton leaf curl virus symptoms in field evaluations during 2003, 2004, and 2005. Fifty cross combinations involving 30 of these lines classified resistant or susceptible were used for inheritance study of the disease. All the F(1) plants of crosses involving resistant x resistant, resistant x susceptible, and susceptible x resi...

Targeted mutagenesis in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) using the CRISPR/Cas9 system

The CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats)/Cas9 system has been widely used for genome editing in various plants because of its simplicity, high efficiency and design flexibility. However, to our knowledge, there is no report on the application of CRISPR/Cas9-mediated targeted mutagenesis in cotton. Here, we report the genome editing and targeted mutagenesis in uplan...
